EA Dashboard

Peer 1

  1. Tangible
  2. Cost Savings: either due to integration savings, consolidation of data centers, reuse of building blocks that would have otherwise been built from scratch every time (# of building blocks used by more than one BU or team), key architecture decisions that saved money, reduced support cost due to consolidation etc.
  3. Cost Avoidance
  4. Risk Reduction
  5. Reduced time to market
  6. Architecture Compliance: Number of reviews conducted, projects not compliant with standards, average days to review projects, exceptions granted etc.

  7. Intangible

  8. centralized information for quicker decision making
  9. forum for involving stakeholders resulting in better decision making

Peer 2

Some measure categories/measures we use are the following:

  1. Value Creation

    • Architecture blueprinting of strategic business capability platforms (% blueprints developed)
    • architecture coverage of the blueprint (i.e. bluepring layer completeness (technology, functionality, data/information, services etc...)
    • Blueprint realization (as projects complete did they advance blueprint ... or not)
  2. Risk Management

    • Architecture health of projects (# of open architecture risks, # of architecture exceptions issued)
    • Architecture health of operations (# of support tickets related to reliability/uptime or supportability or known technology deficiencies)
  3. Compliance

    • probably the least effective set of measures, and depends on your organization culture (ability to accept goverance)
    • reviews completed
    • time spent in oversight activities by project
    • re-review count (low # indicate project planning for and adhering to governance activities)

Peer 3

Measures of EA: Measure Business outcomes via Value creation or Cost Reduction

Peer 4

  1. EA Practice Related Measures: in this section we are measuring how the EA practice is evolved over a period of time. Examples: % of Architects certified with TOGAF.

  2. Efficiency Measures: in this section we are measuring how well is the architecture are delivering on their promise. Examples: % deviation of estimated EA iteration duration.

  3. Value Realization Measures: in this section we are measuring the value EA is delivering to the business. Examples: % of reused architecture blue print patterns.
